Federal Way Public Schools is asking voters to approve the renewal of a local educational programs and operations (EP&O) levy for the next four years. This levy will not increase taxes. This is the same amount approved by voters in the last levy election, but the district actually collected $17 million less than voters authorized for the two-year period.
For more information about the renewal levy, you may go to the district website by clicking HERE.

Totem Middle School is proud to be the ONLY school in Washington State that is BOTH an AVID Demonstration School and also certified as a Middle Years Programme International Baccalaureate School! We have been an AVID Demonstration School for five years. This means that other schools that are exploring becoming an AVID school, or who want to observe best practices for AVID will come to Totem to see what we do in AVID throughout all our classrooms. To find out more about AVID or MYPIB, please click on the links on the homepage.
Thanks to the Technology Levy of 2010, a new gradebook and student information system will be implemented this coming fall. A student and parent portal will be part of this new system, called Synergy, and will allow access to grades, attendance, information about assignments and classes, and much more.
Please click HERE to see the district letter about the new Synergy system.
Totem is a candidate school for MYPIB (Middle Years Program International Baccalaureate) and will our certification visit in May.
The Middle Years Program International Baccalaureate (MYPIB) provides a framework of academic challenge that encourages students to embrace and understand the connections between traditional subjects and the real world, to become critical and reflective thinkers. MYPIB prepares students to be successful in advanced course work at the high school level.
While all students at Totem experience MYPIB, we are offering an additional advanced route of MYPIB for a select group of our incoming 6th grade gifted students (2013-2014). The Advanced MYPIB is specifically designed to prepare students to enter, and successfully complete the requirements for our most advanced and gifted programs in high school, for example the IB (International Baccalaureate) Diploma Program at Thomas Jefferson, or Cambridge at Federal Way.
If you are interested in applying to the sixth grade Advanced MYPIB for next year please click the links below to print out the application.
