Attendance at SLC is mandatory and if students are not present they will receive an unexcused absence. You may contact your child’s Advisory teacher if you must schedule a time other than those two days.

As we head into the winter season, storms can lead to school closures or late starting times. Automated phone calls from the district about school status will go out as soon as a decision has been made for late start times or school closure. You may want to check these links if you want to know the status of Totem being affected by the weather.

Totem received recertification as an AVID Demonstration School on May 1st!
Totem Middle School is proud to be the ONLY school in Washington State that is BOTH an AVID Demonstration School and also certified as a Middle Years Programme International Baccalaureate School! We have been an AVID Demonstration School for five years. This means that other schools that are exploring becoming an AVID school, or who want to observe best practices for AVID will come to Totem to see what we do in AVID throughout all our classrooms. To find out more about AVID or MYPIB, please click on the links on the homepage.
Totem is a candidate school for MYPIB (Middle Years Program International Baccalaureate) and will our certification visit in May.
The Middle Years Program International Baccalaureate (MYPIB) provides a framework of academic challenge that encourages students to embrace and understand the connections between traditional subjects and the real world, to become critical and reflective thinkers. MYPIB prepares students to be successful in advanced course work at the high school level.
While all students at Totem experience MYPIB, we are offering an additional advanced route of MYPIB for a select group of our incoming 6th grade gifted students (2013-2014). The Advanced MYPIB is specifically designed to prepare students to enter, and successfully complete the requirements for our most advanced and gifted programs in high school, for example the IB (International Baccalaureate) Diploma Program at Thomas Jefferson, or Cambridge at Federal Way.
If you are interested in applying to the sixth grade Advanced MYPIB for next year please click the links below to print out the application.
