Principal’s Message

Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year.

My name is Sharon Mitchell Guddat.  I am excited to join the Mark Twain staff, student and school community as the new principal.  Throughout my 25 year as an educator in Federal Way public schools, I have been passionate about providing every student with an educational opportunity that meets their unique needs.  I look forward to continuing the realization of this goal at Mark Twain Elementary.
Mark Twain is a diverse school whose motto is Believe…Achieve…Succeed. We believe that every student can achieve high levels of academic achievement and succeed in developing their unique talents and skills. The entire staff  supports our school wide beliefs and has a commitment to providing an outstanding education for each student, eliminating the achievement gap, and infusing the celebration of our diversity into every day of learning.
We are focused on standards-based teaching, learning and assessment to ensure clear learning targets in every classroom, common ways to assess student progress, and effective communication with students and parents/guardians. Staff collaboration is embedded into our daily schedule to provide opportunities to learn from each other and align our curriculum and teaching strategies to meet the needs of each student.
We are proud of our past successes and have been recognized by the state of Washington State for academic achievement in both 2009/10 and 2010/11.  We look forward to another successful year and thank you for intrusting us with the education and caring development of your child.
Feel free to schedule an appointment with your child’s teacher or myself  to answer any questions that you may have.

Respectfully,
Sharon Mitchell Guddat
