Schoolwide Title 1 Program
|
Title 1 brings Federal money to schools to help children
achieve at high levels. Mark Twain's Title 1 program is a Schoolwide Project.
Title 1 is the major funding source for our reading program, Success For
All.
Goals:
Mark Twain's goals for this school year include improving
reading achievement and increasing parent involvement.
Activities and Programs that Title 1 supports to achieve these goals:
- P.I.E. Events (Partners in Education) - Evening and afternoon opportunities
for parents, children and staff, to learn. Events include: Parenting Classes,
Donuts and Dad, Muffins with Mom, Harvest Read-In and Storyteller Read-In.
Books are provided to children who attend through a grant from the Books for
Kids Foundation
- Educational Assistants - Mark Twain assistants are trained tutors
who work with individual students for 20 minutes each day, reinforcing the
lessons from their reading class. 30% of all first graders are tutored.
- Home and School - This is the title of a monthly newsletter that
all students at Mark Twain bring home with information about reading.
- Testing - All Mark Twain Students are tested every eight weeks in
reading, this determines reading class placement.
- Software - Computer software is purchased for classroom and lab computers
that will help students in reading.
- Continuous learning - Training and workshops for teachers and parents
are provided during the school year.
- Welcome Room - New students and their parents are introduced to Mark
Twain Elementary by our student and parent advocate. We hope you like it so
